Extended Weekend Tours

Long Breaks

Agumbe 3 Nights / 4 Days from Rs. 10,500/-

Summary

Agumbe, located in the Western Ghats of Karnataka, is among the wettest locations in the world, with upto 10000 mm of rainfall, often within the few short months of the southwest Monsoon. The rainforest around Agumbe is connected montane evergreen forests of Kudremukh and among south India’s last remaining patches of lowland evergreen forest in the Someshwara Wildlife Sanctuary.

We stay in the Agumbe Rainforest Research Station, initiated by the world famous herpetologist, Romulus Whitaker, ideal to gain first hand knowledge of Herpetology and life at a research station. Located within the world’s only King Cobra sanctuary, the experience provides a great opportunity to encounter wild king cobras, among several other snakes, endemic birds and other rainforest flora & fauna. While mammals might be difficult to find within these dense rainforest, there are chances of encountering real rarities such as the brown palm civet and brown mongoose, among more regularly sighted wild boar and deer.

FYI and Guidelines

  1. Weather: Updates based on dates of travel.
  2. Since we will explore the location on foot and in mountainous terrain, we recommend you wear comfortable walking/trekking shoes for the trip. Full pants are highly recommended for better protection against snake-bites and scratches from thorny undergrowth. A full length rain-coat is essential at this time of the year, and plenty of spare socks to replace used dank ones.
  3. Please bring your binoculars along - you will appreciate the sights of the forests much more with binoculars on hand. We will have a pair or two to share amongst us, but it is recommended that you carry your own. Email: contact@ficuswildlife.net Web: www.ficuswildlife.net
  4. Please bring essential medication with you, since the local outlets will not always carry what you are looking for. Do check with your doctor on medication and medical safety if you have any medical condition.
