Custom Tours - Reptiles & Amphibians

Snakes, other Reptiles & Amphibians
The Western Ghats contain an impressive diversity of reptiles and amphibians at very high levels of endemism. There are a fascinating variety of snakes, including a whole family (Uropeltidae or shield-tailed snakes) that are largely restricted to the Western Ghats and Sri Lanka.
The endangered king cobra occur in these forests along with about 90 other species including an impressive 60 endemic snakes.
Agamids, geckos and skinks are the other reptile groups that are well represented in the eco-region.
The Western Ghats are particularly rich in amphibian endemics. Notably, a new family of frogs, Nasikabatrachidae was recently described from the ghats and new amphibian species are still being described from the region.
Our recommended tour will take you to the richest herpetofauna habitat in this ecoregion - a rainforest location. You will be accompanied by an expert snake tracker, with an 'eye' for herpetofauna on this tour.
Our tour emphasis will be on the snake diversity of the location, however, we can also shift the emphasis to cater to your interests on other reptiles and amphibians.
