Wetland & other South Indian Birds

Excellent birdlife occurs outside forest ecosystems in South India, mainly over-wintering migratory waders and ducks that arrive in thousands to inhabit a variety of wetland habitats.

Our recommended tours will take you through bird-rich wetlands including brackish lagoons, coastal beaches, lakes, rivers and tanks.

With luck you can see Indian rarities such as the spoon-billed sandpiper, Caspian plover and Asian dowitcher in these habitats and are likely to see multiple species congregations of ducks, terns, waders and raptors.

These tours also include a visit to dry grassland habitat on the Deccan Plateau where the endangered Indian Bustard and several other species of dry-grassland birds occur. We can create a special itinerary for you if you let us know your interests and duration of visit.
